Letting Go was a pleasure to read, from the great opening that draws the reader into the story immediately to the last page that leaves you smiling with satisfaction but still wanting more. Corley weaves together the lives of several young adults as they learn to deal with the conflicts between the expectations of their families and of society with their dreams and their ambitions. The story, however, focuses on Cecile who struggles when the morality she learned at home is at odds with her own desires. Throughout her life, she discovers that she must let go of what she thought she wanted in order to attain the life she wants for herself and her children.Corley uses an unusual combination narrative, letters, journal entries, and emails to put the reader into the mind of characters that will come to life on the pages. Her sensual descriptions allow the reader to hear the music Cecile creates as she sits down at the piano, to smell and taste the delicious offerings Langston creates in the kitchen, to see the rolling waves and feel the sand as Cecile walks on the beach in Bermuda.
This is one of those books that keeps you turning pages but makes you sad when you come to the end. Hopefully, Corley will write again soon to let us know what happens next. Read Letting Go now so you’ll be ready for the sequel.

Letting Go A Novel Maria Thompson Corley 9781535044370 Books Reviews
Letting go is in one word "Honest". Maria Corley is not afraid to tackle the real struggles in love and life. You see her main protagonist, Cecile, searching to balance love, life, and where God fits in all of it- and when to Let it Go. This is not a faith based story but there are elements of revelation for Cecile. Maria accomplishes her goal of making you feel and be drawn into the world of her characters. Sometimes you love them, or hate them, and many times find yourself rooting for them. Cecile and Langston her two main characters are written from a very honest perspective. Maria doesn't shy away from the real obstacles in love and relationships, and her characters are strong and independent minded. This sometimes gets them in trouble but eventually leads them in the write direction. This book is contemplative and relatable. We all know a Cecile, Langston, or a Teddy and in some cases are them. This fiction book gets real so I would recommend it for the mature audience.
If there was ever a romance novel that deserved to be made into a TV mini series or into a film for the big screen, it is 'Letting Go' by the fantastic Maria Thompson Corley. This gorgeous long distance love story, also takes on some difficult subjects like, religion and religion, without going down the preachy route. The characters were brilliant and the scene setting was really engrossing, which made for a really enjoyable read, which flowed along at an easy pace. I didn't feel the need to rush to get to the next chapter, I was happy enjoying living in each scene. I can honestly say, I missed the novel when it was over, so I would love a follow up story featuring Cecile and Langston once again.
The author has crafted something special, and fairly epic with LETTING GO.
I could relate to the flawed characters, and to their growth process. However, what truly makes the characters stand out is the fact that I’ve never seen seen these characters before. I felt like I was getting to meet real people and not the average sketches of people who normally populate novels.
As a music lover, I loved the music references throughout. The inside look at Juilliard was particularly fascinating.
The writing was steady throughout, but in places, it was absolutely sublime. I look forward to future projects by Maria Thompson Corley.
I don't often read romance fiction, usually preferring darker genres. But, I found the synopsis of 'Letting Go' by Maria Thompson Corley very intriguing, plus it had lots of favourable reviews. I'm pleased to say that despite it not being my usual thing, I really enjoyed this novel. I loved how some of the story was told by diary entries and letters, and some of Cecile's emails had be laughing out loud. The characters were the real stand out of the novel, they were so believable, it was like observing real people grow throughout their journeys and troubles.
So if you are a thriller lover and think romance fiction is bland, why not step out of your comfort zone like I did. With 'Letting Go' you will discover a novel that is unforgettable and that will really move you. It's always worth trying new things and I can't wait to read more from Thompson Corley in the future.
This is a romance novel with a real difference, whilst being totally true to the trauma and stress that comes with young love. It's hard enough to be in love, but when that love is long distance, it can play havoc with your mind. Thompson Corley really captured this in 'Letting Go'', and I found myself really invested in the love story between the middle class Cecile and the working class Langston. I really wanted to two of them to forget their fears, and make it work, because their connection is so strong. You really get behind these protagonists; thanks to Thompson Corley wonderful deep writing, I really made a connection to them, and I remembered them long after the novel was over.
If you are a fan of romance fiction, or even if you are not, give this book read, I couldn't put it down. With the risk of sounding cheesy, I had a hard time 'Letting Go' of this one.
